  How it began....

Right, I’m new to this blogging thing. Call me late but Information Technology has never really been my thing.
And If you’ve been in a situation where a little mistake or a random dysfunction of your laptop has meant you lost a whole 20,000 words university dissertation just two days before the deadline, then yes, you would know why I’m not so keen.
Nevertheless, I had to give it another shot! Not that I had much of a choice with the rate we became so dependent on technology and in all honesty, it is the most effective way of show casing my designs. Anyway, enough of me babbling on...let me tell you why I’m here exactly.

Now, I have had a keen interest in home decoration and designs for as long as I can remember. I love the idea of changing living spaces, creating dynamics; whether it’s with patterns, colours, mirrors, fabrics, textures and all that kind of stuff. More importantly, every home influence, works itself into our hearts and minds and then works itself again in the subsequent development of our character,  therefore having some effect on our lives. We should take the way we decorate our homes more seriously!...Beauty, art and culture should be embraced  in our homes as it brings identity, passion, inspiration and creativity in to our lives. Far too many of us complain about our lives being as bland as a pair of beige curtains, but how can we expect more when we dont fill our surroundings with art and beauty.

Another dominant interest of mine is culture. All the different cultures this world has to offer, whether it’s Mexican, Moroccan, Arabian or Kenyan….the list goes on. They are all so diverse, artistic, tell a story and are dearly beautiful and in my opinion just not embraced enough by one another. Be the food....oh the FoodJ,  the Clothes, the Jewelry, the Music, the Dance, the weddings, the languages and lots more......amazing! Just amazing!

...........And so I had an epiphany, (drum roll please) decorating homes, using culture to define beauty and art, realizing meaning..... (Basically, to start designing cultural inspired home accessories)...and that’s where it all began. Well, it wasn’t as straight-forward as that as you've probably guessed. I have had obstacles and life hasn’t always been on my side. Nevertheless, I still designed and found comfort in doing so. Initially, my inspiration came from my love for Yoruba traditional wear, then it spread to Indian, Japanese, Eygptian and the rest of the world. The colours, the patterns, the details on the fabrics has life, history, meaning. Each and every one of them tell a different story but still has a familiar aspect of a particular culture.

So, I started making.......making homes interesting.....cushionsandcurtains ltd was founded.
